Meals on Wheels is a Family Affair... bringing shut-ins and community together. Meals on Wheels is more than good nutrition: it creates and promotes a beautiful form of community as caring volunteers cook nutritious and tasty food, cheerfully deliver meals through any and all weather, and encourage our seniors and shut-ins by brightening their day.

Meals on Wheels was created in February 1969 by Kiwasa – a membership of the wives of Kiwanis Members. For 31 years this group of dedicated women gave service to our community by providing hot, nourishing meals to senior shut-ins.

The program is funded through a combination of payments by the clients (the cost to our clients is $6.00 per meal including delivery) financial assistance of the Province of British Columbia, City of Kelowna and the Kiwanis Clubs of Kelowna, High Noon and Summit Clubs.

In the year 2000, the Kiwasi ladies asked the Kiwanis High Noon Club to assume responsibility for this valuable service as their membership was dwindling and becoming more elderly. After much thoughtful consideration, the club agreed to take it on as of July 1, 2000. to ensure the service was not compromised or discontinued.

Over time the Kiwanis Club of Kelowna,Summit Club joined in financially supporting this great service.

Kiwanis is committed to service to our Community and has had an active presence in Kelowna since 1946.
